What tax benefits are available if I have work done to my property?
There are a number of tax benefits available to property owners and renters (locataires) depending upon the particular circumstances of the work. Where the property is more than 2 years old and certain criteria can be met in relation to previous works and proposed work, then the TVA element of the work is reduced from the normal 20% to just 10% and in certain circumstances 5.5%. Furthermore, in instances where the work undertaken improves the energy efficiency of the property or involves new technologies then a 'credit d'impot' (tax allowance) may also be available.
What do I need to do to have the TVA applied to my project at 10% or 5.5%?
If you believe your project will meet the criteria to have the TVA charged at the reduced rates of 10% or 5.5% then your artisan will be able to provide you with a standard declaration to complete and sign. If this is acceptable then the TVA will then be charged on the project at the applicable reduced rate.
How do I know if a 'credit d'impot' is available for the work I wish to have done?
When you speak with your artisan about the work you are proposing, they will be able to advise you upon which equipment attracts a 'credit d'impot' and what you will need to do to obtain this.
